Diablo Immortal

also known as DI

Diablo Immortal is the only entry in the series with structured ranked-style PvP at scale. 8v8 Battlegrounds and the faction-war Cycle of Strife loop give it a competitive layer the mainline games never shipped.

Diablo Immortal launched in 2022 as a Blizzard / NetEase mobile and PC release with the most structured PvP infrastructure of any Diablo entry. Battlegrounds run 8v8 with capture objectives and seasonal rankings; the Cycle of Strife is the faction-war loop where the server-spanning Immortals defend their position against the Shadows in scheduled events (Rite of Exile, Challenge of the Immortal, Vault raids).

The competitive PvP is genuinely the centerpiece of the endgame for the PvP-leaning audience, distinct from D3 (which retreated from PvP) and D4 (which contained PvP to opt-in zones). The monetization model is the audience dispute: the gear-progression layer that drives PvP power is heavily monetized, which the competitive scene has flagged repeatedly.

The server-faction Cycle of Strife mechanic is one of the more genre-novel structures Blizzard has shipped, drawing from the Korean MMO siege tradition (Lineage 2, Black Desert) more than from the action-RPG lineage Diablo's other entries occupy.
