Aion launched in 2009 with one of the most distinctive PvPvE designs of the post-WoW era. The Abyss, a contested zone where Asmodian and Elyos faction forces fight each other while also competing with the NPC Balaur faction, produced a genuinely three-way conflict layer that few MMOs have replicated. Fortress sieges, dredgion runs, and the arena format gave the game a structured PvP scene with a serious Korean and European competitive community. Aion Classic continues to operate.
