Goonswarm Federation is one of the dominant null sec coalitions in EVE Online, with a continuous operational history that spans nearly the entire modern era of the game. Founded in 2005 with leadership drawn from the Something Awful forums, the alliance has been a defining political actor in EVE for two decades.

The 2009 takedown of Band of Brothers, executed through a director-level defection, remains one of the most cited single events in MMO political history. The 2014 Bloodbath of B-R5RB, in which Goonswarm participated alongside the Clusterfuck Coalition against the Pandemic Legion led N3 coalition, became mainstream gaming news for the dollar value of the destroyed assets and remains the largest single fleet engagement in EVE history.
