Heroes of the Storm launched in 2015 with a deliberate departure from the LoL/Dota MOBA template: shared team experience, no last-hitting, multiple battlegrounds with different objectives, and Blizzard heroes drawn from across their entire IP catalog. The HGC pro circuit was abruptly shuttered in late 2018, an event that became one of the most cited examples of publisher esports retreats. The live game continues to operate with a smaller but loyal community.
