Gwent launched in 2018 after years of beta development. The three-round match structure (where players manage card economy across rounds rather than playing to lethal in one round) gave Gwent a distinctive strategic identity that no other CCG has cleanly replicated. The Gwent Masters circuit ran for several years with serious prize support. CD Projekt Red transitioned active development to a community team in 2024, with the live service continuing in a maintenance state.
